Quality Lumber Choices
White Oak
White Oak is a mostly straight-grained hardwood with a medium-to-coarse texture, and is the strongest lumber that Potterville Sawmill offers. Having longer rays than Red Oak, White Oak has more figure. White Oak lumber is both economical and rot-resistant. It is typically white to very light brown. White Oak wood is mostly straight-grained and is typically harder than red oak. Another aspect that makes white oak lumber so attractive is that is does not darken much with age. The tone you purchase the wood at will be very similar to what the wood will look like years later.
Red Oak
Red Oak is a great hardwood choice for almost any use, but ideal when appearance is important and staining or clear coating is the choice of finish. Both professionals and DIY’s choose red oak boards to finish carpentry projects. Red Oak is great for stairs, shelving, cabinetry, and so many other projects. It is not quite as strong as White Oak but still a strong solid hardwood.
Pine
Pine lumber is a popular softwood choice due to its affordability, ease of workability, and versatility for a wide range of projects. Pine is what Potterville Sawmill uses to build rough sawn sheds. It naturally resists shrinking and swelling, making it a good choice for furniture and other projects that need to maintain their shape. Pine has a smooth, uniform texture that accepts stains and paints well, allowing for a wide range of finishes. Pine is known for being easy to cut, shape, and work with, both by hand and with machines. It can also be used for a variety of applications, including construction framing, furniture, interior paneling, and even outdoor structures.
